North Jersey Minerva Corporation is a 501©3 not-for-profit public charity founded in 2000. Since its founding, the corporation has supported initiatives to empower youth and communities in need in Hudson, Union, and Essex counties.

The focus of North Jersey Minerva Corporation is on literacy, physical & mental health, and advocacy. The goal is to help people in our target area to make informed decisions about their health and education, ultimately helping them live better lives.
Board Of Directors

Petrucci E. Taliaferro, MSW, LCSW, DCSW, is a psychotherapist in private practice. She has many years of experience serving the community as a social worker, and membership in non profit organizations. Her commitment is to impact social changes which enhance the lives of individuals and families.

Andreanette R. Hilton A technology professional in the finance industry. Her career spans over thirty years employed in software development and project management. Organizational memberships include Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Toastmasters International, Eagles International Training Institute. She is also an ordained Deacon at Cathedral International, Perth Amboy, NJ.

Mollie Smith, A retired teacher from the Jersey City New Jersey Board of Education, with 34 years of experience in education. Mollie has professional knowledge in needs assessment, budget and program development, organizational and team buildings skills, staff development, research and preparation of reports. Besides being actively involved in Minerva Corp, she is an active member of Clair Memorial United Methodist Church, North Jersey Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Ollie Washington, A Financial Secretary for NJ Minerva Corporation. I have served in this capacity for over 5 years and as such have been very involved in assisting the corporation in focusing on social, educational and economic development for the communities we serve.

Tamieka Dorian Phillips, A graduate of Rutgers University, Stevens Institute of Technology, and McAllister Institute of Funeral Service. Tamieka is Lead Systems Programming Analyst and a NJ Licensed Funeral Director. Tamieka is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Purnell Temple C.O.G.I.C in Bayonne, NJ.

Gwen Slaton, With a B.S. degree from Penn State University and Master’s degrees from Seton Hall and Rutgers. Gwendolyn is the first female and African American Library Director at Essex County College. Gwen is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Nancy Hicks, A leader in Non-Profit/Social Services sector. With 13 years of experience working with the homeless and low income community, Ms. Hicks’ mission is to lead, develop, motivate and empower others to create the life they want for themselves. She continues to educate others on the changing face of homelessness.

Dorita Newsome-Dobbins, D.M.D is a general dentist practicing in Livingston, NJ for over 35 years and a lifetime member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Dr. Newsome-Dobbins is on the Board of Trustee's for the National Dental Association and the President of The Commonwealth Dental Association. A passion for children and learning she has volunteered as a tutor, worked with incarcerated youth and is a Deacon at Bethany Baptist Church in Newark. Married for 37 years and the mother of two sons.

Mrs. Dana Jones a New Jersey Certified School Social Worker. Throughout her career, she has worked with children and adults of all ages in a variety of settings, including in private practice. She has been employed with the Township of Orange School District in New Jersey since 2002. She also serves on the district trauma informed team. Mrs. Jones has been married for 26 years and is the proud parent of two young women.

Cheryl Whitley Crawford is a graduate of Johnson C Smith University, where she pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She became a teacher in the Newark Public Schools and worked as a English Language Arts teacher and English Language Arts coach. While she was working in the Newark Public Schools, she became an union building representative. A member of Abyssinian Baptist Church in Newark, she wants her life to be a living testimony to her Heavenly Father.
